Company History

Royal Realtors and Loan Services was founded in 1994 by licensed real-estate broker Denise Smith. Ms. Smith combines broad-based knowledge of lending practices gained from 25 years' experience in the mortgage banking industry with 15 years' experience selling real estate.

The slogan of Royal Realtors and Loan Services is: "Dare to Dream," which reflects the company's attitude concerning home buying--anyone can and should achieve the American dream of home ownership. And since the company's inception, its philosophy has been to provide information to prospective buyers and continue to work closely with them, helping them locate the right property and qualify for the right loan.

Such comprehensive yet individual attention throughout the buying process has resulted in 80% of the company's client base stemming from referrals and repeat business from existing clients. A vital part of providing this type of personalized care is a well trained, motivated, and efficient staff; and each staff member has been trained personally by Ms. Smith. With over 25 years' experience managing and supervising personnel, she effectively motivates her staff by utilizing their individual skill set to maximize productivity.

However, it is her commitment to educating people about the benefits and accessibility of home ownership that distinguishes her from her peers in the industry. Her commitment to first-time home buyers from communities of color has been demonstrated over the span of her career. Ms. Smith is certified by the California Association of Realtors to educate home buyers and has, over the years, provided many free seminars for first-time buyers. With her personable manner, her enthusiasm, and many years of real-estate and mortgage-industry experience under her belt, Denise Smith is an engaging speaker who can effectively convey her knowledge of lending practices and the local real-estate market. She expanded her audience further by espousing the benefits of home ownership to cable television viewers (Channel 27) over the course of 10 years, during the first of its kind, local, interactive, home-buying program--which she created.

Going the Extra Mile

Most real-estate companies provide services to both buyers and sellers--yet most local real-estate companies come and go. However, the key to Royal Realtors and Loan Services' longevity has been to provide mortgage loan and refinancing services in addition to the services offered by competitors. This ability to provide comprehensive customer care has allowed the company to sail through fluctuating markets to become a familiar fixture within the East Bay community.

Denise Smith is the president elect (2007) of the Oakland Association of Realtors and has been elected to serve as president in 2008. She has served on the board of directors in various capacities for the Oakland Association of Realtors since 1999. She currently serves as governor for the Women's Council of Realtors (for the state of California). And she is also the president of the Dare to Dream Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
